The female red-banded sand wasp (Ammophila sabulosa) is one of the hunting wasps that feed their offspring by finding and paralyzing caterpillar which is then buried in a burrow together with its egg and when the larvae hatches, it feeds on the caterpillar.

But when you carry around caterpillars, having large jaws to be able to reach around them sure hleps which is why this little lady has such an impressive set.

Do zoom in and check out the detail on the compound eyes. I think it turned out very nicely.

The Doris longwing (Heliconius doris) is a pretty species - but it is also polymorphic, ie its appearance is variable as it and other species mimic each other.

In fact, I am not 100% certain that this is a Doris, but it should be.
