Snowfalls are beginning to stop after more than 24 hours of continuous precipitation over the city.

With more than 50 cm (30 inches) of snow accumulation, we could say this has been one of the most important, or maybe the most important snowfall over Madrid.

All the communications are closed, but the subway. Madrid-Barajas Airport is closed and the streets are impossible to circulate.

Children with their sledges are enjoying very much, and it is announced that schools will be closed by the moment until next Wednesday.

Pareja de muñecos de nieve después de la nevada histórica sobre Madrid, España

Las nevadas comienzan a detenerse después de más de 24 horas de precipitación continua sobre la ciudad.

Con más de 50 cm de acumulación de nieve, podríamos decir que ha sido una de las nevadas más importantes, o quizás la más importante, sobre Madrid.

Todas las comunicaciones están cerradas, menos el metro. El aeropuerto de Madrid-Barajas está cerrado y las calles están imposibles para circular.

En esta foto, la imagen de un par de muñecos de nieve, dos de los muchos muñecos de nieve que han crecido a lo largo del barrio donde vivimos.

Los niños con sus trineos están disfrutando mucho, y se anuncia que las escuelas estarán cerradas por el momento hasta el próximo miércoles.

After the intense snowfall of more than 24 continuous hours and that has accumulated more than 20 inches (50 cm) thick, people go out to enjoy the streets, from which today the circulation of cars has disappeared, on a day that we could describe as historic due to the amount of snow that has fallen on the city of Madrid.

Después de la intensa nevada de más de 24 horas seguidas y que ha acumulado más de 50 cm de espesor, la gente sale a disfrutar a las calles, de las que hoy ha desparecido la circulación de coches, en un día que podríamos calificar de histórico por la cantidad de nieve caída sobre la ciudad de Madrid.

Para los próximos días se preven intensas heladas, con temperaturas que podrían descender hasta los -13ºC en la ciudad.

Since yesterday, when we received about 4 cm (1,5 inches) of snow, an arctic blast is visiting Spain. Its name is Filomena, and it is expected to leave snowfall in the capital of up to 20 cm (8 inches) during today Friday and tomorrow Saturday.

Then the temperatures will drop sharply to around -12ºC (10F), a temperature that would be a low record in the city of Madrid.

This photo was taken from home at noon, and it shows families enjoying the snowfall, intense at the time, in one of the neighborhood parks.

Now, you need to be extremely cautious and safe. We are not used to these intense snowfalls, nor to the intense cold, therefore, we must take extreme precautions and take the car as necessary.

Desde ayer, cuando recibimos unos 4 cm de nieve, una ola de frío ártica está visitando España. Su nombre es Filomena, y se espera que deje nevadas en la capital de hasta 20 cm durante hoy viernes y mañana sábado.

A continuación, las temperaturas bajarán intensamente hasta cerca de los -12ºC, temperatura que sería una mínima record en la ciudad de Madrid.

Esta foto está tomada desde casa al mediodía, y en ella se ve a unas familias disfrutando de la nevada, intensa en ese momento, en uno de los parques del barrio.
