Eastern barn owl (Tyto javanica)
Not an artistic photo, but the first Barn Owl that I've got reasonable focus on. These birds don't seem that common around Darwin, and the only places I've seen them are really around Fogg Dam, although I've heard that there's sometimes the similar looking grass owls behind Holmes Jungle.
On the off chance that someone on Flickr knows the Darwin(ish) area well and knows where to find barn owls during daylight hours, feel free to let me know. I'd like to get a flattering photo of one in natural light someday.
