I know I probably bore people with endless images of these birds but wish only to highlight peoples awareness of them as a declining species,due in part to local councils who will not stop developing areas where Rail and other rare birds live. This ,results in increased human pressure and better access for predators.Apathy and ignorance is the biggest killer of our native species...
Worth its own weight in gold, this bird fossicks in the lovely late evening light,when they are most active...

Mallard ( Anus platyrhynchos ) Today I could not travel far so was content to photograph a few locals including this lovely female Mallard... We so take them for granted yet they to are striking when looked at in detail.
Shame they are jointly responsible for driving our Grey ducks to extinction by inbreeding though.....

One member of the "Great Egrets" of the world...
Often seen singularly out of breeding season though breeds gregariously in but one area near Whataroa in the South Island of New Zealand.....
