Stonehenge, Amesbury, Wiltshire

I was going to clone out the masses on the right-hand side, but then the title wouldn’t work. And yes, I know it’s a classic movie misquote along with “Play it again, Sam”.

Stonehenge, Amesbury, Wiltshire

Another weekend break with family down at the Cotswold Water Park afforded us the opportunity to visit Stonehenge. I’d been before way back in July 2016 (it’s scary how time passes you by… it seemed like only yesterday). Saturday’s weather forecast looked like the best opportunity to go although it was raining hard as we left the park.

However, it was completely overcast when we arrived at our allotted time-slot of 10:30am. The place was heaving with visitors and tourists by the coach load. Not much change of a decent photoshoot but I did manage a few long exposures.

This one taken by the Heel Stone - a huge unshaped boulder of hard sarsen stone stands in isolation surrounded by a small circular ditch. It weighs more than 36 tonnes! In 1979, the hole for another similar-sized stone was discovered next to it, which may have been the original position of the Heel Stone. Or, there may once have been a pair of upright sarsens immediately outside the entrance to the earthwork enclosure.

Hubberholme, Skipton, North Yorkshire

We walked due West from the waterfall along the escarpment until we reached this farm house… besides, we could see the pub from here which instigated a group rebellion to drop down into the village of Hubberholme and the George Inn.

No idea what the farm is called as it doesn’t give any details on Google Earth, but the interesting thing about the main building is the two date stones built into the front of the house. The top stone is dated 1876 and the lower stone – 1698. I can only assume the building was once a single storey building and rebuilt later on. However, the stonework looks pretty consistent, so what do I know!

Buckden, Skipton, North Yorkshire

A meet-up in the Yorkshire Dales for Brad and Barb’s annual trip to the UK. A good turnout with the weather playing ball for once after a lousy start to the year with wintery conditions hanging on for grim death. A nice well-planned walk with a few photography opportunities and more importantly… plenty of pubs along the way!

After an asthma inducing climb right at the start as we left the car park at Buckden we reached this waterfall. Thank the Lord I didn’t bring ALL my gear this time!

Rambergstranda Beach, Ramberg, Lofoten, Norway

Second stop-off on our “Southern Lofoten Islands Photography tour” was Rambergstranda beach with snow cover right up to the sandy beach. We were only given 20 mins here and apart from myself, Tripod-Carrier and the tour guide, nobody else ventured beyond the car park and onto the beach. No point in going all that way (and paying for the privilege) and not making the best of the opportunities.
