I didn’t go to the match myself… it was an early drive out to the Quays for a Costa breakfast, a walk around the bridges and a bit of shopping for Mrs R while I took some pics for an idea I have in my head. I didn’t realise Utd were playing at home, let alone a midday kick-off. Even at 9am there were hundreds of fans milling about MediaCity and the Lowry.

After a couple of circuits around the Quays shooting images for my idea, I decided to wander over to Old Trafford to capture the match day atmosphere. Chaos and bedlam readily sprang to mind. I didn’t really know what I wanted to capture or how for that matter.

Speaking to the mounted police officers and even an explosives dog handler - Dutch the dog had just completed a full search of all 75,000 seats the day before and was on standby for “any potential incident” … this is the norm for a Utd home match I was told by all. The last ½ hour before kick-off is mayhem as the majority of fans rush in from the surrounding pubs, burger bars and souvenir stands.

I’d left to meetup with Mrs R long before then, but this is a 3 image multi-exposure taken in the middle of it all and I hope it conveys the atmosphere of match day, which is probably the same at every Premier League club.
