This famous little guy found by Wendy Kahle yesterday is attracting a lot of attention from birders, the media and press see here: bc.ctvnews.ca/birders-flock-to-vancouver-for-glimpse-of-t....
He should be drinking pina coladas in Mexico or Central or South America. Instead he's flown the wrong direction... classic case of reverse migration. I really hope that the weather doesn't get too cold and he survives the winter. Unfortunately, other visiting Tanagers in the province, have not been so lucky.
This little guy has a slight bill deformity but is eating well. He is enjoying eating peanuts and wasps. Don't knock this combination until you try it.
This is a very rare vagrant to BC and it is the 6th record for the province. It is also the 1st record ever for Metro Vancouver.
This is the 262nd bird I have seen in Metro Vancouver this year and the 416th bird species I have seen in BC.

Taken on the Hamburg Trail. On this trail I also saw my lifer Tufted Flycatcher and a Cordilleran Flycatcher.
This Tanager is one of the prettiest birds I've ever seen. It was a long hike up to the Tufted Flycatcher this guy was just past the midway point.
