This is the weirdest place I've ever seen a RUBL!! This Washington rarity was eating salt off the pavement in the parking lot at Fred Myer's! If only they were this easy in Vancouver! We have to search through hundreds of Brewer's by scope usually to find them... no easy task. This bird was very confiding and lovely to look at. This is an adult female in winter plumage. Rusty Blackbirds are endangered, so we must do all we can to conserve them. The main threat to their population is habitat loss on their wintering range and the lawful shooting of blackbirds for agricultural control. Kudos to Noah Sanday for thinking out of the box and spotting this bird.

It is not often that I catch these guys on a conifer tree. This year at Iona there are definitely more Yellow-headed Blackbirds than last year so that is fantastic to see!

My FOY! I saw 4 today. They were at quite a distance but had to take a shot of this gorgeous bird on the cattails. I love their cat-like calls!
