Barn Swallows are declining worldwide due to pesticides and climate change. A lodge in Lake Louise, AB called "Simpson’s Num-Ti-Jah Lodge" was fined 27,000$ by Environment Canada for destroying threatened Barn Swallow nests yesterday and for violating the Migratory Birds and National Park Acts. Nice to see some justice for birds for once. In the last 13 years there has only been 10 convictions out of 444 enforcement cases having this happen in a National Park is most likely why justice happened so quickly here. Let's hope more proper enforcement continues countrywide.
