Taken in the Amazon on a river island. They sure are attractive shorebirds.

I saw this beautiful bird at Puembo Birding Garden. There were tons of Scrub Tanagers there too. I just love yellow birds they are so uplifting.

Was nice to see these Black-faced Ibis. This subspecies called the Andean Ibis is endangered in Ecuador. I ended up seeing 20 birds which is almost 50% of the entire Ecuadorian population. Antisana was one of the nicest places I went to in Ecuador. I loved the high elevation paramo birds and countryside and the stunning Antisana Volcano.

I really wanted to see Torrent Ducks on my trip. They are endemic to the Andean region. I got lucky and saw my lifer near San Isidro Lodge in Cosanga. Both the male and female are uniquely beautiful and they and their chicks live a hard life in rushing rapids which sometimes prove deadly for chicks. Torrent Ducks are a dramatically declining species due to invasive species of fish and damming of rivers for hydro power that kills off the food they eat. The hen is orange and the drake black and white with red bills.
