Taken at Lonsdale Quay. Boy I love how noisy they are and of course their red feet and mouths. This bird is in pre-alternate moult. Pigeon Guillemots are endemic to the Pacific West Coast only.

This Black Guillemot was in a cool looking moulting plumage. It was really cool to see this guy on the Pacific Coast and so close to shore.
Photographed at Norton Sound in the Bering Sea.

The difference between Black and Pigeon Guillemot is minimal but Black have gray underwings and have more white in the wing. Pigeons have a black wedge in the white part of their wing.
These Black Guillemots were so cute as they huddled in pairs and did loving courtship displays at all the seabird colonies I saw them at from Witless Bay to Bonavista to Cape St. Mary's.
