Sadly Lesser Prairie-Chickens are basically extirpated from Colorado so I had to go into Kansas to see these endangered birds. They are steadily declining due to habitat loss. They can be told from Greater Prairie-Chickens by their red throat pouches/sacs. Greaters have yellow ones. Greaters also sound more dove-like.

I love their "bunny" ears and the flight hops and vocalizations the males do during display. It's funny how the one keeps running at the other.

These guys stomp their feet up to 17 times per second!
