I don't usually take pictures of strangers, but for some reason I liked the colorful reflections they made in the sand at low tide. If this pic makes me rich and famous (ha ha ha) I'll look them up and send them a royalty check!

Seen at the small botanical garden at the Channel Islands National Park visitor's center, Ventura, California. Most of the plants there were dormant since it's pretty much summertime; however, there were a few flowers that were quite brilliant - this being one of them. The day was rather hazy, so most of my beach pictures were not worthy of keeping on my computer, let alone sharing on Flickr.

It's my understanding that this is a Matilija Poppy, aka egg poppy. My sister was holding the flower in a position where I could photograph it. I had inteded originally to photoshop her arm out of the pic, but I decided to leave it in for perspective. See: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romneya

Off in the distance, a couple can be seen sitting watching the sunset. Not a bad way to end the day! While this particular sunset showed some promise, it faded as the sun dipped into the fog on the horizon, so this was really about as good as it got. Maybe I'll have better luck tonight!
