Le Jetavanaramaya est un stûpa du Sri Lanka situé dans les ruines du complexe du Jetavanavihara, dans l'ancienne capitale Anuradhapura. Sa construction a été débutée par le roi Mahasena (273–301) après la destruction du Mahavihara et terminée par son fils Maghavanna Ier. Il abriterait la relique d'une partie d'une ceinture ou d'une courroie nouée par le Bouddha.
Cette construction est importante dans l'histoire du Sri Lanka, car elle témoigne des tensions entre le Theravada et le Mahayana au sein du bouddhisme ; c'était aussi une des plus grandes structures de l'ancien monde avec une hauteur de 122 m, ce qui en fait le plus grand stûpa de l'époque. Elle n'est plus aujourd'hui le plus haut stûpa, mais est encore le plus large, avec une base de 233 000 m2. Environ 93,3 millions de briques ont été nécessaires à sa construction, qui a représenté un succès technique à l'époque. Selon le Mahavamsa, il a été édifié à la place du Mahavira détruit, ce qui a provoqué une révolte d'un des ministres du roi.

The Jetavanaramaya is a Sri Lankan stupa located in the ruins of the Jetavanavihara complex, in the ancient capital Anuradhapura. Its construction was begun by King Mahasena (273-301) after the destruction of the Mahavihara and completed by his son Maghavanna I. It is said to house the relic of part of a belt or strap tied by the Buddha.
This construction is important in the history of Sri Lanka, as it bears witness to the tensions between the Theravada and Mahayana traditions within Buddhism. It was also one of the largest structures in the ancient world, standing 122 m high, making it the largest stupa of its time. Today it is no longer the tallest stupa, but it is still the widest, with a base area of 233,000 m2. Some 93.3 million bricks were needed to build it, which was a technical success at the time. According to the Mahavamsa, it was built in place of the destroyed Mahavira, which provoked a revolt by one of the king's ministers
