Maricao, Puerto Rico. This is the Puerto Rican subspecies, which I observed on an outing a couple days before yesterday's earthquake. The birds in our area were also alarmed by the quake, with many chatting noisily in the early morning, pre-dawn hours. Thanks for looking.

Rincón, Puerto Rico. The scaly-naped pigeon is among the birds that have thrived since Hurricane Maria hit the island in 2017. They are large, skittish, and subtly beautiful. Thanks for looking.

Maricao, Puerto Rico. A small endemic bird rather common in forests and known locally as "bien-te-veo." Thanks for looking and any feedback.

Rincón, Puerto Rico. Hummingbirds on the island suffered greatly after Hurricane Maria. I recently had my first sightings in three years of several species, including this Antillean Mango. A positive sign of their gradual comeback. Thanks for looking and any feedback.
