Since three weeks I am travelling through the Dolomites, and yes they are smashing. Everyday it is hiking, making pictures, travelling, and being very active and until now I am lucky to have only a few days of bad weather. I probably will stay another two weeks since the autumn is not at its height, but the larix trees are now starting to get yellow, a wonderful sight.

This shot was on my first day in the Dolomites. A long and friendly walk along the Seiser Alm. It might be one of my best shots, but back home I will have to sort out from I guess around 4000 pictures. Have a nice weekend.

Yesterday I came back from a seven week journey in the Dolomites. A wonderful time at the end of summer and the start of autumn.
I had two goals: first to see the Dolomites, and second to see the colors change from green to yellow, orange and red. Both goals were reached, and with 4800 pictures I have to do some work :).

This shot was taken with my telelens, and it is the little church of Colle Santa Lucia. A lovely setting typical for the Dolomites, where around every corner you can see something special.

I took this shot on my way to the Civetta Massive. On the way back I then visited this little church and the village, which is very scenic, before I drove to Cortina d'Ampezzo. More to come coming weeks/months/years :)!?

On my second day in the Dolomites I walked from Compatsch to the Tierser Hutte. The final part that takes you to the rim was a very steep climb that made me realize I am not twenty anymore (you BTW can see that climb here www.sentres.com/en/tour/hiking-trail/seiser-alm-und-tiers...).

But the reward was this amazing view, and because of the clouds, the light and all the little hills the landscape starts to live.

(If you really want to enjoy this picture press L and F11)

Just a fun exercise! I went to the Dolomites to see the start of autumn and see the change of the colors in the landscape.

So at the end of my trip the thought came to my mind to go back to the Seiser Alm, and see how it had changed. Although I have many better pictures than the one shown on the right, I wanted to make an image at the exact same spot as the one on the left (flickr.com/photos/115540984@N02/51595370770/in/dateposted/).

Alas the stars of the show (the two cows) weren't there, and since it was a very bright day without clouds, the resulting picture is far less. So I decided to do some photoshopping. It was fun to do, and in the end you can see some slight differences, because I was probably 1 or 2 meters further to the right than in the original picture.

The Dolomites often made me feel this way. How often didn't I think it must be one of the best places for people to live. Incredible nature with those wonderfully shaped mountain peaks, the wonderful green fertile valleys, scenic in its own way, where cows wander around and also seem to enjoy life, and the lovely chalets everywhere. Also the tidy villages with the pittoresque churches, the nice architecture, great weather in summer and snow in winter, and finally the friendly and relaxed people, isn't this the way life should be? I really envy the people living in this wonderful area of Europe.

I took this shot when driving from San Martin de Tor to Santa Barbara in the Val di Funes. A narrow road and scenic all the way. So I had to hop out of my camper every now and then. In the back the Odle group, and my goal for the next day the church of Santa Barbara that you can see as a tiny spot somewhere above the middle on the right. Autumn is now on its way, and while during that time I mainly had seen yellow larches, the first red deciduous trees started to show their wonderful colors.
