every spring I search for a fox den....this female is raising five kits, typically the male assists however I've yet to see him show up which leads me to think he may have been killed.

a lot of wind noise, hundreds of thousands of sandhill cranes migrate through a narrow area along the platte river in nebraska feeding off farmland in order to gain weight (nearly 20 percent of their body weight) for the final leg of their journey north to their nesting grounds....

Sandhills are hunted in several states so they are somewhat wary...in Nebraska they are protected however you'll often see an alert 'sentry' bird as they feed among the fields....
