This time of year lots of young cottontails around, which is good, because there are lots of hungry raptors around. Maybe not so good for the rabbits though.

Coots are gods gift to juveniles. they don't fly very good, its a big piece of meat, and there's lots of them. Without them many juvenile raptors wouldn't make it thru their first year.

In southern calif, I don't see a lot of dark morphs. Red tails are our most common hawks, but dark morphs make up less than 10% of the population.
