Helsinki / Helsingfors is the capital and largest city in Finland. It is in the southern part of Finland, on the shore of the Gulf of Finland, by the Baltic Sea.
Helsinki Cathedral (Finnish: Helsingin tuomiokirkko or Suurkirkko, Swedish: Helsingfors domkyrka or Storkyrkan) is an Evangelical Lutheran cathedral of the Diocese of Helsinki, located in the centre of Helsinki, Finland. The church was originally built as a tribute to the Grand Duke, Nicholas I, the Tsar of Russia and until the independence of Finland in 1917, it was called St. Nicholas' Church. It is a distinct landmark in the scenery of central Helsinki, with a tall green dome surrounded by four smaller domes, the church was built in 1830–1852, in neoclassical style.
Those long Scandinavian nights really let you wait for your shot as this was captured over an hour after a sunset (at 10PM) and as you can see, the blue hour is just about to start !

Helsinki Lutheran Chathedral is a distinct landmark in the scenery of central Helsinki, with a tall green dome surrounded by four smaller domes, the church was built in 1830–1852, in neoclassical style. It was designed by Carl Ludvig Engel, to form the climax of the whole Senate Square laid out by Engel, surrounded by a number of buildings all designed by him. The building has a Greek-cross plan (i.e. a square central mass and four arms of equal length), and is symmetrical in each of the four cardinal directions, each marked by a colonnade and pediment. Engel had intended to place a further row of columns on the west end to mark the main entrance (opposite the altar at the east end), but this was never realised.

Helsinki might not have the most glamorous architecture in Europe however the city makes up for it with its great coastline where you can chill and relax and feel like you are somewhere in nature instead of the middle of the capital city. Kaivopuisto - Kaivari is one of the oldest and best known parks in central Helsinki. Kaivopuisto offers several hectares of parks, both on flat ground, and on cliffs. The park also includes traces of stone fortifications built in the 18th century. Every summer, thousands of Helsinkians come to Kaivopuisto to sunbathe or to have picnics.

This shot could be just one more lovely sunrise/sunset photo in my long series of such shots, however there is something special about it - the time - taken at 1AM ! I have already experienced those long days during summer months in Iceland, however there the sun actually sets for few hours (creating several hours long "blue hour"). The Inari lake is even more to the North (way above the arctic circle), the sun never sets there from end of May to end of July. This shot was taken during my first night of the day that never ended. Finding a good location to capture it, was not so straight forward as I was hoping, but I was lucky to find this wooden walkway that was pointing directly to the North ! It is difficult to say when the sunset stops and the sunrise starts, but I guess the midnight is the breaking point. the sky like this can last for several hours... well meaning that you have similar conditions.. Yet again luck was on my side as there was quite heavy storm and lot of rain behind me but I still managed to take photos for about an hour and then I had to be holding the umbrella above the camera again.. !!!
