Cologne (German: Köln) is Germany's fourth-largest city (after Berlin, Hamburg and Munich). It is one of the oldest cities in Germany, having been founded by the Ubii in the year 38 BC. The name is derived from that of the Roman settlement, Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium.

Cologne lies on the River Rhine. The city's famous Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom) is the seat of the Catholic Archbishop of Cologne. It is renowned as a monument of Christianity, of German Catholicism in particular, of Gothic architecture and of the continuing faith and perseverance of the people of the city in which it stands. It is dedicated to Saint Peter and the Blessed Virgin Mary. The cathedral is a World Heritage Site, one of the best-known architectural monuments in Germany, and Cologne's most famous landmark, described by UNESCO as an "exceptional work of human creative genius". It is visited by 20 thousand people every day.

Weather in Europe has been rather extreme during last month, I've now visited about 5 diffirent cities with wonderful Christmas markets and I only hear locals saying how unsual it is to see so much snow, including Cologne. It is not much fun to shoot when its -7C or colder in heavy snow fall, however when the weather calms down and the sun shows itself, some of the wonderful shots can be made. For what ever unknown reason, this is not very famous view although it is fabulous. Most people take the shot of the Cathedral from the river site where I was heading as well, however on my way I noticed few people on top of very high building (I always look up :-)) and it would not be me if I would not try to get there too. Luckily it is public paid terrase, so no convincing was needed this time... and as a bonus, I still managed to capture that famous view from the river too, however I prefer this shot much more.

Dresden - Drážďany - Drježdźany - Drezno, the capital city of the Free State of Saxony in Germany. It is situated in a valley on the River Elbe. Dresden has a long history as the capital and royal residence for the Electors and Kings of Saxony, who for centuries furnished the city with cultural and artistic splendour.

With a pleasant location and a mild climate on the Elbe, as well as Baroque-style architecture and numerous world-renowned museums and art collections, Dresden has been called "Elbflorenz" (Florence of the Elbe).

Dresden (Upper Sorbian: Drježdźany) is the capital city of the Free State of Saxony in Germany. It is situated in a valley on the River Elbe, near the Czech border. Dresden has a long history as the capital and royal residence for the Electors and Kings of Saxony, who for centuries furnished the city with cultural and artistic splendor.

The Elbe Valley of Dresden was an internationally recognized site of cultural significance by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee for five years. After being placed on the list of endangered World Heritage Sites in 2006, the city had its status as world heritage site formally removed in June 2009, for the wilful breach of the UNESCO World Heritage Convention, due to the construction of a highway bridge across the valley within 2 km of the historic centre. It thereby became the first location ever in Europe to lose this status, and the second ever in the world.

Augustusbrücke, or Augustus Bridge, spans the River Elbe in Dresden, linking the old and new parts of the city. The bridge is located next to the impressive Catholic Cathedral in the old town. Walking across it affords great views of the city on both sides – especially at night when many of the buildings are lit up. Like most of Dresden, the bridge was destroyed in World War 2, but later restored lovingly to its original splendour.

Yet again another try to come up with less usual view of Dresden. I'm sure that it was only me leaving home with such a shot that particular evening, nobody else was crazy enough to stand in the middle of the road wishing for more traffic to pass to give more lights to already great leading lines of tram rails.
