This photo was taken in Yemen in Unesco site – Shibam, one of the most amazing places I’ve seen. I’ve been wondering around and just before sunset I’ve noticed warm sun rays shining through sand flying in the air. Warm deep colors of sun that was just about to set down.

The far end of the Nizwa Souq hosts a lively livestock market early each Friday morning in the shade of date palm trees. Local farmers bring their cows, goats and sheep to be inspected, auctioned and sold to the highest bidders. The scene is crowded and busy especially on the eve of Eid festivities. The obstinate behaviour of the animals often provides great amusement for the spectators. Visitors get an excellent opportunity to observe local customs.

Wahiba Sands lies in the eastern region of Oman. The sands stretch from north to south 180 kilometres, east to west 80 kilometres, with high dunes, extensive woodlands and an unspoiled coastline. Some of the sand dunes are 100 meters in height. Total land area is approximately 12,000 square kilometres with about 3,000 Bedu of varying tribal origins including Janabah, Mawalik, Hikman, Amr and Wahiba.
I was walking around Wahiba Sand dunes sea, starting to think how many more different desert photos I can take, having recently been in 4 different deserts across Arabia. To my surprise in a minute after this thought, strong wind started to blow, creating fantastic new opportunities. This photo perfectly captures how it is to walk against blowing sand. I was rather worried about my camera, but the new Pentax K20D should be super protected against different kind of weather, even sand storm.
