Most Spanish windmills, like those described in Cervantes' Don Quixote can be found in the province of La Mancha in central Spain. The best examples of restored Spanish windmills may be found in Consuegra where several mills spike the hill just outside of town, providing a spectacular view of the 12th century castle and of the town. The castle was once a stronghold when Consuegra was the seat and priory of the Knights of San Juan--the Spanish branch of the Knight's Hospitallers of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem. Windmills are also located in Mota del Cuervo, Tomelloso, and Campo de Criptana.
I have been at this place few years back and although I got some lovely shots then I was looking forward to come back again. Main reason being a possibility to capture my favorite time of day - blue hour with windmills nicely lit during that time. Unfortunately/fortunately I will have to come back again... Before any trip, I always do extensive research and coming back to Spain was no different, but there is always something new and unexpected that might surprise you.. this time the fact that most monuments in Spain are being lit only during weekend. I guess the economy has hit the country hard and they have to look for saving everywhere, therefore no light on famous monuments during weekdays... and if you asked me if I knew... I really didn't.. so I had to make it work without that... I was hoping that I would be lucky enough to have a car driving the road all the way to to my view point... and it did, well nearly when I lost the hope and was about to pack... so here comes a learning... never lose a hope... !!

The Stone Bridge - Puente de Piedra - is fifteenth century Gothic, and is the oldest bridge still in use on the Ebro. This bridge has had a very checkered history because of the flooding of the river and the vicissitudes, as well as numerous renovations.It has seven visible arches and another hidden under the street that runs by the river. It is also called the Bridge of Lions due to the four bronze statues of lions made in 1991 by sculptor Francisco Rallo. The lions are the symbol of the city of Zaragoza.
Although Zaragoza is more famous for its stunning cathedral, this beautiful old stone bridge is surely one of city highlights and it is particularly beautiful during twilight. Luckily the lights are switched on much earlier than on the cathedral, so you can greatly use the time when waiting for the more classic shot.
