Middle East - GCC - United Arab Emirates - UAE - Abu Dhabi - Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque - Iconic landmark & third largest mosque in the world - Stunning building inspired by Persian, Mughal and Moorish islamic architecture

This beautiful mosque is a place where I always love to return, especially during such a magical twilight and night. This might be not the most original take by today's standard, but the one I wanted to have for some time.

The majestic Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Mosque is probably the most imposing religious and national landmark in Abu Dhabi to date. It is also arguably one of the most important architectural treasures of the contemporary UAE society - and one of the most beautiful in the world - initiated no less by the late president HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who is fondly thought of as the father of UAE.

The Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Mosque, popularly called Grand Mosque by local residents, is seen as a “globally unifying” landmark from its conception to completion, bringing together designers, features, materials and suppliers from nearly every corner of the globe: Italy, Germany, Morocco, India, Turkey, Iran, China, Greece and the UAE.

The Mosque’s initial architectural design was Moroccan, but it evolved to include many global features, including exterior walls that are of traditional Turkish design. Natural materials were chosen for its design and construction, which include marble, stone, gold, semi-precious stones, crystals and ceramics.

Slightly different view at Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Mosque in Abu Dhabi than the one with desert foreground I posted few days ago. It is truly amazing place to visit and to take photos of. I have to admit that I have actually asked those two ladies to model for me to nicely balance the composition and also add more atmosphere to the shot. All ladies have to wear abaya and head cover when visiting this mosque, luckily you can borrow one at the mosque itself.

Middle East - GCC - United Arab Emirates - UAE - Abu Dhabi - Brand new modern skyline with sky high skyscrapers along the corniche at Dusk - Twilight - Blue Hour - Night

Abu Dhabi might be less popular brother of its more visited Dubai, however I somehow prefer this city, probably because of kilometers long corniche and the feeling you get being by the sea. Dubai might be very long and and relatively narrow city along the sea as well, but with only few exceptions, you dont have the chance to freely hang out along the shores of the sea as you do in Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi might have less sky high buildings that Dubai so popular for these days, but it surely have few of new funky skyscrapers like these as well. Plus it has one the most beautiful mosques I've ever visited (and I have visited a lot of them around the world!) - Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.

The Burj Al Arab (Arabic: برج العرب‎, literally, Tower of the Arabs) is a luxury hotel located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. At 321 metres (1,053 ft), it is the second tallest building used exclusively as a hotel, after Rose Tower, also in Dubai. The Burj Al Arab stands on an artificial island 280 metres (919 ft) out from Jumeirah beach, and is connected to the mainland by a private curving bridge. It is an iconic structure, designed to symbolize Dubai's urban transformation and to mimic the sail of a boat.

Burj Al Arab characterizes itself as the world's only "7-star" property, a designation considered by travel professionals to be hyperbole. There is not much one can do about composition, so it is not the most original shot by far, the only point of difference is the sky. The weather in the Middle East started to change so we have some clouds across Gulf, (even in Kuwait) and clouds in the sky mean lovely colors.... I'm happy the way colors turn out on this shot.
