This past winter, western Washington and the Olympic Peninsula in particular, saw some of the heaviest rainfall in recent memory. Day after day of steady rain. The result of this, was that many rivers overflowed there banks and caused damage.

In the photograph above, the once popular family campground call Altair was totally destroyed by the high fast moving water. It was located on the left bank as seen from this vantage point. Downriver a mile or so, is another popular campground that also saw damage. The road in this area was washed out too.

Such is the life around the ever changing river.......the Elwha!

Not many people experience Cades Cove under the stars. There are two ways in, on foot, or on a bike. We went in on foot. It was worth it. To spend an evening creating unique images was the reward for hiking in. We had the place to ourselves, if you don't count all of the wildlife.

A burrowing owl returns to the burrow with a dung ball that is used to attract beetles to the burrow. Thanks to all those who shared their information to identify this behavior. Much appreciated!
