Another busy day 'at the office'., home to roost., and our beautiful Kestrel watches the sun slowly descend over the horizon

All sounds very romantic but the truth (as it often is) was a lot more mundane

The sun had almost gone and it was getting quite dark., he was actually sitting on an owl box and looking all over the place., I was just hoping he'd look into the direction of the sun (if only for second or two) before it finally disapeared

Luckily he did., and with those big dark eyes it was an easy moment to capture

A regular fly-by shot., but is anything really 'regular' when it comes to owls?

Owls have been the subject of myths and superstitions as far back as history is recorded

The ancient Greeks associated the owl with goddess of wisdom, Athena (probably the source of the comment 'wise old owl') whereas the Romans were terrified of them and believed they brought death

They have a mystique about them., even flying over a Fen in Norfolk!
For me they are simply a very special and beautiful bird of prey

Isn't it always the same?

It'd been sunny all afternoon., then at the very moment the Kestrel lands on a post right in front of you., a big black cloud covers the sun., and the lights go out!

I know you've all been 'there'

Anyway after few expletives., it was case of fiddling with the settings., and do what you can

The resulting shot came out OK., but I can't help but muse what it might have been like had that 'lovely' black cloud not arrived at that particular moment!
