When hiking along the Great Wall of China, you can see the long path ahead of you relatively easily!

It's hard to avoid a feeling of awe when spending days hiking along the Great Wall. The sheer scale of it is astounding -- no matter how long you walk for it always extends as far as your eye can see, either vanishing over the most distant ridge or merging into the atmospheric haze on the edge of the horizon.

Trying to capture this immensity was an interesting challenge. I've found that both short and long focal lengths can be used for this depending on the scene and this is an example of using a longer focal length to show how the structure hugs the highest point of the ridge at all points as it crawls across the northern boundary of ancient China. Although I can appreciate that placing the wall along the highest points makes sense from a defensive point of view, it does make the hike a lot more tiring!
