User / yooperann / Tamarack needles and cones

I'm a big fan of tamaracks, which are deciduous conifers (they lose their needles in winter), but I don't remember ever encountering the needles and cones up close before. The needles are very soft. Tamarack is a pretty cool word, too. It's Algonquin for "wood used for snowshoes." Also known as a larch, or hackmatack. Larix larcina.
