Taken from the fire tower on Pinnacle Mountain looking South at sunset. The vast view is of Cherokee National Forest land. The town of Erwin, TN can be seen in the valley on the left. Hwy 26 runs through this valley linking Johnson City, TN and Asheville, NC. The mountain range on the middle right is of the Sampson Mountain Wilderness - almost 8000 acres managed by the Forest Service. About 530 of them are of old growth timber more than a century old. Its home to Buckeye Falls (a 475 ft drop) and about 5 different clear swift streams that carve the hollows. Its supposedly home to the highest population of black bears North of GSMNP. Saw one there a few weeks ago. The fire tower is quite easy to get to as you can drive most of the way, leaving you with a 20-minute hike.

This panorama is from a merge and crop of six portrait style shots.

Thanks for looking!!
