As you might have noticed I am really into capturing Roe Deer. It requires a fair amount of field craft, and lots of patience. At this time of the year all Roe Deer are shedding, and this buck is no exception.

The difficulty with birds in flight captures is the lighting settings, but I keep on trying. Especially since nature provided me with a (nearly perfect) symmetrical photographic opportunity.

In my eyes one of the most difficult skills with capturing wildlife is seeing a subject before it sees me. Whilst this juvenile red fox was hunting for rabbits (you can even see one on the right in the field) It came closer and closer (see next upload)

For a very long time I have been wanting to capture a wild rabbit, but it’s actually not an easy task.
Tonight I was laying flat in the grass capturing a roe deer (see previous upload) and noticed this rabbit kitten sitting close to its burrow. I very carefully crawled closer and took this back lit capture.

Up until this weekend I never had the illusion I could capture a nearly full frame Wren with my 300mm lens (I only needed 270mm). This active little friend totally ignored me, and I spent about 5 minutes with it laying flat on the snow on 2-3 meters. The past 10 days it has been unusually cold in The Netherlands and I observed that many birds are standing on one leg in order to avoid the frozen ground.
