Dutchman's Breeches Blooms

Took the dog for a walk down to the firepit behind my house this evening and saw the Dutchman Breeches was blooming! Ahhhh, the signs that spring is moving along nicely! I couldn't resist running back up to the house, grabbing the camera and nabbing a few shots!

Today I came home to a blanket of snow on the ground this afternoon and I noticed my Bearded Irises had popped up and they were holding up about an inch of snow. I couldn't resist shooting the hard blue against the white. As I shot I slowly got in closer and closer I noticed this perfect little globe resting precariously near the point of no return. What a beautiful little world we live in that passes unnoticed right before our eyes.

Dolly Sods
Bear Rocks

For those of you who have been to Dolly Sods/Bear Rocks especially in Autumn you are well aware of the beauty that it holds and for those who have not been, you are really missing out. Last Friday I made my first trip to the area and even though we were socked in with clouds I just couldn't believe my eyes. On a clearer day the area offers incredible views extending across the Appalachians into Virginia, but on this day we were socked in, however it definitely didn't take away from the beauty of the place as the blueberry bushes were in full striking red color! While I was waiting around for my good friend Randy Sanger to locate our good friend Karl Hassel in the fog I got out my macro lens and started looking around. On nearby bush I spotted this spiders web covered in dew and I couldn't resist a few shots. With the bright colors in the background setting off the scene it's actually the first time I've ever thought to shoot a web.

Laural Gorge Trail

If you've never been to Laural Gorge, especially in the Spring you're missing out. On our early May hike the wildlife, flora and waterfalls were showing off and it was not disappointing. Frogs and turtles abound, Lady Slippers, Columbine and a plethora of other plants were all in full bloom and then there's the waterfalls. 7 of them over a 2 mile hike, a single, a double and a triple falls, unbelievable!
