Purchased by my Father and Mother after spotting it on the Joseph Chevrolet showroom floor in Cincinnati, Ohio in August of 1968. It is one of 6,600 convertible Impalas made that year. Having been a part of my life from the beginning as this was the car I rode home in from in St. Elizebeth Hospital in Covington, Kentucky when I was born. I fondly remember sleeping in the back seat on many long trips. After the passing of my father in 1995 my mother would not let anyone drive it or move it and it sat in an open air garage deteriorating for 9 years. Finally she asked me if I wanted to have it or should she sell it. Of course I told her I wanted it. It took two years to get the engine rebuilt (long story) and after fixing other odds and ends the car is now running near perfectly. The '68 is nearly all original, except for some minor replacement parts and the passenger side rear bumper. It still has the original 327 engine. It also has the original top, which badly needs to be replaced. It also needs to have the paint completely stripped off and a new paint job as well as removing the rust spots. It may take a few more years for her complete transformation, but in the end it will be well worth the wait. Someday, it will be my daughter, Emily's car.

I-275
Wilder Kentucky
Oct. 09 2009

Not only did the dude take out my '68 Impala, but he wiped out a '70 Monte Carlo too.

Update: Total cost to replace, repair body parts, strip all the paint and repaint the car is between $10,000 - 15,000 and I will have the car back April or May 2010. Insurance is just now getting involved, not sure how dude's insurance is going handle the damage to the Impala.

Update: 10/30/09, Allstate has agreed to cover the $7,706 in damages to the front of the car. Thank you Allstate.

Update: Got the insurance check...she's on her way!

Update: The front end has been replaced, pulled out and primered, the rear of the car is getting some restoration it's getting a new paint job and I should have it back by X-Mas 2010.

Update: The new paint is on, the chrome is going on should have her by 12/31/10.

Update: January 11, 2011. The car is now complete. Authentic parts for the front end, near body off restoration, new paint job, photo to come soon!

1968 Chevrolet Impala
Arnold's Bar And Grill
Downtown Cincinnati
Ohio

On October 9th, 2009 a young driver lost control on while entering I-275 in Wilder, Kentucky smashing into a 1970 Monte Carlo and came to rest in my lane where I impacted his driver's side at 50 miles per hour smashing nearly the entire front end back to the driver's side wheel (the far left was undamaged). The car was bought by my dad in 1968 off the showroom floor of Joseph Chevrolet. It had been repainted once with lacquer in the 1980's and paint deteriorated and cracked all across the car. My father died in 1995 and my mother would not let anyone touch the for years until Sepember 2004 she asked if I would like to have the car, which I said "Well, yeah." After years of repair and replacement it was nearly in perfect running condition (with its original 327) at the time of the accident. When I took the car to my body man, he said he would only fix the car if he was able to restore it to it's original beauty. So here it is, or at least part of it. After a year and 3 months, plus some time in a garage to let the paint cure, and a near body off restoration it has been painted in it's original factory color "Ash Gold." In the photograph direct sunlight is hitting the paint at the top giving it a golden color where further down the front end in the shade it's a greenish gold (the blue on the hood is a reflection of the sky), basically making it different shades of gold depending on what light strikes it.

Today I spent my whole day driving around in this car, and things were right once again.
