Built in 1885, this was the first opera house in the Sacramento Valley. It burned down and was rebuilt in 1895. It thrived around the turn of the 19th century but by 1912 began facing declining ticket sales due to competition from motion pictures. A lawsuit the next year shut down the theater. It was reopened in 1989 and is now a California State Park and on the National Register of Historic Places.
