One of the oldest cemeteries in Nevada, the Dayton Cemetery was established in the 1850s. The actual date remains unknown as most of the records was destroyed by a fire. Hence many of the early miners have their identities lost and were buried under the marker "Unknown Miner". One of the recorded names is James Finney, aka "Old Virginny", the namesake of Virginia City. He supposedly was one of the earlier discoverers of the Comstock Lode and sold his share for $50. The cemetery is said to be haunted.
