Built in 1915, this Renaissance-Revival building is in the middle of the civic center district of Berkeley. There are some nice
WPA era murals and Bras-Reliefs inside . The building is on the National Register of Historic Places.
There was talk of selling off the post office as far back as I was there ( around 2009), but it seems the US Postal Service moved forward in 2013, sparking fierce local opposition. This included a massive sit-in and various lawsuits including by the city and the National Trust. As of January 2015, after potential buyers pulled out, the US Postal Service has claimed the building is now "off the market". It is unclear what will happen to this building.
