The "Pride of the Alta California Missions", La Misión del Santo Príncipe El Arcángel, San Gabriel de Los Temblores was established on September 8, 1771, the fourth of twenty-one California Missions built by the Franciscan Order for the Spanish government. The mission is noted for its distinct Moorish design with capped buttresses. One of the most successful of the California missions, it oversaw some 7800 baptisms of the California Natives (and 5600 burials).
