Built by Charles Birney and Joseph Bosenbury in 1915, the Safety Car was a small 32-person trolley that contained several innovative designs, including a single motorman (no conductor), a deadman switch, and interlocked doors. It peaked in the 1920s but declined quickly afterwards due to its relatively small size and lightness.
