In 1911 Samuel Cowell took over the Cowell Lime and Cement, and a year later he had this barrel mill built a few miles upstream of the IXL Kilns. Powered by water and manned by two millworker, the mill produced the barrels necessary to store and transport the lime. It now lies in pieces.
