I had to try for several years to get this shot: low morning clouds drifting through the Elbe river valley beneath the Lilienstein in the Sächsische Schweiz national park. But this photo alone was worth all the early mornings, treks in the pitch black, and freezing on top of an open plateau :) Stitched from 20 individual vertical shots in Lightroom, this panorama shows the breathtaking beauty of the fog twisting its way through a forest below our vantage point.

If you're interested in learning how I edited the shots with Affinity Photo (on my iPad), check out my forum post here: www.mu-43.com/threads/show-before-and-after-shots.71530/p...

I had to wait for over a year, but finally, FINALLY, I got the shot that I had wanted: low clouds drifting through the Elbe River valley beneath the Lilienstein. Yes, it necessitated getting up at 2:50am, and an almost one hour hike up the mountain, with sunrise set for 5:44am. But it was WORTH it. :)

Waiting for sunrise high above the clouds, and then spotting a group of trees about 1km away, half hidden in the low clouds which were just starting to glow in the morning sun. Pure magic.

Today I wanted to share a more close-up photograph than my usual landscapes. I decided to finally give my macro lens a bit of a workout again and went out hunting for crocuses. And was reminded once more just how difficult using a macro lens (in very strong gusts of wind) is. So I switched to my long Panasonic lens 😂

I’m also using Affinity Photo on iPad more and more as my primary photo editing tool. It’s just so comfortable to edit directly with the Apple Pencil on the large iPad Pro 12.9 screen instead of having to painstakingly use a mouse or the trackpad on the Mac. Painting into masks, for example during Frequency Separation, is just much easier this way. And makes me have less buyer’s remorse about that shiny iPad Pro ;)

After the sun had risen, I had already packed up my stuff because I foolishly thought the best light had passed. But as it turned out, there was at least one more photo to be had.Sliding down ice-covered steps and walking across bridges spanning chasms I arrived at a viewing platform that let me capture this gorgeous golden light cutting through the quiet forests below and illuminating parts of the rock formations at the Bastei in the Elbsandsteingebirge national park in Saxony, Germany.
