A storm clears off the ridges that divide the river systems draining into the Pacific (to the left) and to the Atlantic (right)- here the Colorado River and South Platte Rivers. In the center the summit knob of Navajo Peak (13,415 ft / 4089 m) catches a bit of sun, with Apache Peak (13,447 ft / 4099 m) just behind it, and Arikaree Peak (13,156 ft / 4010 m) to the right. The loose rock intermixed with snow in the lower part of the frame are moraines (piles of rock pushed up by glaciers) from the Little Ice Age (1300-1850). The rocks are billion year old metamorphic gneiss and schists, with a few intrusions visible, particularly in some of the higher ridges (e.g. the white stripes in the first ridge up from the bottom).
