Somewhat resembling a buttressed Egyptian statue, Elaterite Butte rises above Horse Canyon in the Maze District of Canyonlands National Park, as viewed from near Panorama Point. The road cutting a cross the bottom is the access to Millard Canyon on the Green River. The brilliant white layer is White Rim Sandstone, a fairly resistant rock (thus the broad plateaus above it) found through much of Canyonlands. The red/ white banded layers below is Cedar Mesa Sandstone, which makes up much of the Needles District of Canyonlands.
