I was finally finished forever with GM cars like the Pontiac Sunbird which looked GREAT, but spent more time in the shop than on the road. The Civic had NO styling, but never broke down until the automatic transmission finally bit the dust at over 300,000K miles.

Before the gentrification of this neighborhood in the mid 1980s, there were lots of empty fields like this one with abandoned cars. This view was taken behind the "Variety Shop" at the intersection of Seabreeze and Merwin Avenues. Today, a row of houses occupies this same site.

In this era, hundreds of piers lined the Hudson River.
Many of the boats carried trans-shipped goods from the
massive Central Railroad of NJ and Lehigh RR train yards in Jersey City on the other side of the Hudson.
Thousands of deals were made and money exchanged here every day by the drivers of early motorized trucks and owners of horse-cars, which transported whatever they purchased to warehouses and retail stores in Manhattan.

Being an employee of the Port Authority, my Dad and our family were invited to the celebrations.
While politicians and PA executives were giving long speeches, I walked over to the Southwest corner of the lobby and captured this moment with my Kodak Pocket Instamatic 40 using 110 film.
