Not a species that I get to photograph very often because they can be quite skittish. This one stayed put for a bit longer than usual on some old tree branches lodged in the mud on Horsepen Bayou. A Double-Crested Cormorant preening on the bayou.

This 11-foot lumpy lizard was a bit annoyed with my presence and made his feelings know. No hissing on his part, but he did want to make himself appear to be a bit more intimidating. He eventually settled down and returned to the head down position and continued to warm himself on the bank of Horsepen Bayou.
I am sitting in the main channel of the bayou and he’s basking on a small part of the bank of the bayou. The water behind the reeds can be quite shallow at times, but the tides on this day were extremely high.

Pretty and pink go together, but it really is a rose color that we see here on this Spoonbill foraging in a shallow area of the bayou. We don’t see a lot of them here on the bayou and so it’s always a treat to have one cooperate a bit and do a bit of foraging while visiting the bayou. Roseate Spoonbill on Horsepen Bayou.

This is a capture of the Bayou Ranger II plying the waters of Horsepen Bayou. One way of seeing the bayou in a bit more protection but lacking the intimacy of paddling the bayou in a canoe or a kayak. Trust me, the people were all focused on the lovely Tri-colored Heron (in breeding colors) perched atop the old snag stuck in the mud of Horsepen Bayou.
I don’t think that my contacts are seeing my photos and will post this as an experiment. It’s a busy weekend anyway and will likely be away until Monday with a trip out of town scheduled for Saturday.
Am still getting no comments on the previous post except for the people that are searching for it. It does not show up in the normal feed. Hopefully, they will get the problem resolved while I’m away.
