Second take on a two-piece set. Collage on collage. Title puns on Dali again. Random assembly and intuitive arrangement incorporating photo manipulated photo manipulation pieces and collage of elements of Max Ernst's "The Temptation of St. Anthony", further collaged and manipulated.

Running wild ... for the sake of it.

Punning on Dali. Two 'secret' self-portraits also hiding in the veils. I've always loved images that continue on out from all the framing edges. It gives the impression that there is much more happening beyond what we can see. That's a good metaphor for our daily, so-called, waking consicousness.

Last in the series of explorations into a contemporary use of Dada aesthetics, ideas and method, all on a digital platform. Why do this? It's a balance thing. AI is all the rage now and it's providing some stunning images but I still haven't warmed to the idea of creating visual images solely or mostly through words and algorithms. Chance, accident and intuition are a good balance to this and always a solution when the left brain dominates.

Logo-centricity has been declared a "Male" attribute. But I quietly question that. So here I punned on the word 'testosterone" as I put together a very 'masculine' image. Male faces, maps, cars, words and numbers ...

All images were taken by me and cropped or manipulated as independent pieces. They were randomly pulled from my archives and collaged here in a single piece.

Musci Link: "Aladdin Sane" - David Bowie, from his album "Aladdin Sane". I'm suggesting this song as a loose companion to my visual piece largely because of the rather masculine tone and theme to the song but mostly for Mike Garson's unbelievably complex and completely wild, improvised piano solo. There's years of training in many musical fields behind his solo but it comes out in a furious and deliciously disorienting flurry of notes. Some of the most daring and definition-shattering piano work I've ever heard.

John Cage, William F. Burroughs, André Masson, all artists who favoured chance, accident and the non-linear. Each of these artists in their respective fields of music, literature and visual art made these elements of view and method the bases of their art. I was also introduced at art school to working with the same approach and it became a very important foundation in all that I ever do creatively.

Here we have some of that. Is there meaning? Who knows. The image wasn't created with a theme in mind but the subconscious and the intuitive probably had a hand in the selection of elements that went into this 'random' collage. The viewer 'completes' the piece with whatever comes to their mind.

Music Link: "The Waiting Room" - Genesis, from their 1974 album "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway". Easily the most artistically and musically challenging album the band ever made under the leadership of Peter Gabriel. The album is a long story of the inner transformation, or a kind of pilgrim's progress, of one street urchin named Rael. In this piece, the ceiling of his underground 'prison" ( his own inner state ) collapses down on him and he waits under the rubble for the spectre of death to arrive, his thoughts and feelings ricocheting around in the dark. Here he wonders about the nature of consciousness and what it is that survives death ... and what does not.

But what's really dying in Rael isn't the body, but the pre-formed and propped-up false sense of self we call ego, that daily chatterer that dazzles pure consciousness with it's endless display of distractions and diversions. This 'death' in the story, then, isn't what it appears to be but it is, rather, the end of delusion and a kind of awakening.

Why choose this piece? Because of it's random, improvised structure which gels 3/4's the way through into a powerful focus.

A random, 'non-rational', 'non-linear', extempore collage done in a Dada-ist vein meant to undermine and scuttle the impulse to 'snap' images into easy interpretation ... that is, into a quickly discernible packaged meaning.

A kind of 'antiphonal' response to the new high-tech platforms of the current time that rely entirely on linear input. Sure, looks really great but how much chance, accident and intuition goes into it? There's a place, but not all the place.

Title derived from the text elements that were 'automatically' typed in.

Music Link: "I Zimbra" - Talking Heads/David Byrne. Originally on the Talking Heads album "Fear of Music" and here performed by Byrne and the "American Utopia" band of 2018. Byrne's spoken introduction really lays the groundwork.
