Henry Rougier made several flights in March 1910 over Monaco. Being of considerable means, his machine was made to order by the Voisin firm. His special plane, called the Rougier No.1, was fitted with a 55 hp Renault engine, driving a pusher airscew. A classic Voisin model with compartments between the wings for stability, the elevator in front and the rudder at the back. No ailerons. No third wheel was fitted as an anti-noseover precaution.

Louis Paulhan climbs away with the Voisin pusher biplane named 'Octavie No.3'. In 1909 the Société L'Aviation was formed in Paris to train pilots. The machines of this Société were built by Voisin. Louis Paulhan got his flying licence (brevet de L'Aéro club de France) in 1909, brevet No.10.
The 'Octavie No.3' was fitted with an anti nose-over wheel in the front (one of the first). It was powered by a 50 hp Gnôme rotary engine, mounted in the early style - first the propeller and then the engine. The propeller fitted was an own metal (!) construction of Voisin.
A fine view of the first classic Voisin pusher biplane with the compartments in the wings and the elaborate tail section.

A Voisin Militaire Type 1910, with unequal span wings and a closed central canopy. Still a three-wheel undercarriage. This was changed to a four-wheel undercarriage configuration in the Voisin Militaire Type 1911. Gradually the later 13,5 meter (span) military Voisin bombers emerged. Note that the front elevators have gone.

The correct name of the pilot is Juan Bielovucic - of Peruvean birth. His name was sometimes spelled out in French as Jean Bielovucie. The presented spelling here is probably a misprint.

A former owner of this postcard changed the name of Bielovucic to Justin Authier for no apparent reason. The picture shows Bielovucic. Of course one can never be sure that he is actually flying this machine, but looking through the register of Veille Tiges (the French society for pre-war aviators) there is no mention of Authier.

This Voisin pusher biplane is identified as the Voisin de course Type Métrot 1910. This type can be distinguished by the single rudder and elevator at the rear. There is still an elevator at the front of the nacelle. The wings were of 10 meter span, totalling 36 square meter. Although barely visible on this picture there were ailerons on the upper wing only. Several French aviators flew this type, although different engines were fitted of E.N.V. (50 hp), Gnôme (50 hp) and Gobron (50 hp).

René Métrot got his flying licence [brevet de l'Aéroclub de France] on 6 January 1910. He was an early flyer as he got brevet No.19.

Trümmer feindlicher Flugzeuge - Debris of enemy airplanes.

The card gives on the back that this exposition was held in Cologne during August - September [1916] . These expositions were all over Germany during the war, specifically to raise money for the wounded in the war. Hence the German name of these expositions 'Ausstellung für Kriegsfürsorge'. There is pamphlet in the enormous collection of the Library of Congress advertising for the exposition.

The big pusher biplane on view is an early type French Voisin.
