*There is a Jizo(Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva) in this temple, which is commonly known as the "Melt Down Jizo". They say that this Jizo was discovered by the fisherman from the ocean, and the shape has been dissolved, weathered and faded with time. People started to pray this Jizo since they believed that this Jizo will "melt" and untie all the Suffers and Agony of our soul.
One more story that could be more famous and common is,based on the fact that there is a grave right next to this Jizo,which is of a 16 year old girl who attempted to commit arson, thinking she could meet the man that she fell in love with........caught by the police and burnt alive at the stake for her crimes.
Her name was 八百屋お七(Yaoya Oshichi), and her story became one of the most famous 人形浄瑠璃(Ningyo Joruri)....a Puppet Theater of the Edo Period in 17th century.
There are still some people who believes that the Spirit of Oshichi lodges in this "Melt Down Jizo"........
