This is the first video I have ever uploaded to Flickr but I hope you think it was worth the wait. It lasts less than a minute but really captures what an amazing experience it was swimming with Sealions. It is mesmerising and reminds me of the mindfulness moment at the end of Springwatch.
This was taken at Los Islottes in the Sea of Cortez. California Sealions breed here and the young suckle from their mothers for about a year. But females need to go off and feed so they can produce the milk. So the young are left in a large unsupervised creche. There were about forty young Sealions that were playful and curious. I received the occasional nip but nothing painful, rather like boisterous puppies.
