KAP test flight of the Sigma DP1 and Kapsure II Rig lifted by a Fled Kite.

First : the Fled kite in 4 meter/second wind, its flight was a pure joy, very stable, very steep angle, some moderate pull and enough lift for 600 grams and even more if we had to put more. Ideal KAP kite for moderate wind, easy to set up, easy to fly, easy to control; Excellent.

Second : the Sigma DP1 in RAW configuration for KAP with a KAPsure II. Kaping with a sigma in Raw when compared to autokap with a Ricoh GX 100 in high resolution JPEG with a 5 seconds intervalometer can be compared to fly fishing and net fishing... when fly fishing you only catch what you are looking for... it takes some times and you don’t catch much, if any...(yes the DP1 in RAW is very slow) when net fishing you catch a lot , it’s quick but it’s a matter of luck... a totally different KAP concept.

Third : the KAPsureII : great piece of engineering, I was not totally convinced by the video return so I added a small 2.4 ghz video camera return but the signal of that camera was interfering with the Kapsure so I had to shut it down, I’ll have to try with a 1.2 ghz wireless camera.

Fourth: the Sigma Photo pro software for RAW treatment ; very simple, efficient.and powerfull enough to bring back to life some shots that would otherwise be rejected. (once converted in Tiff the RAW files are over 80 Mo)

First conclusion : I found out that most of my first shots were blurred due to slow speed ( wrong set up od the DP1) there is a learning curve with the Kapsure II but I still feel a live video would be a plus (I need to find the right frequency not to interfere with the system)
Yes the DP1 is a great camera but very slow in RAW.

More to come

BTW this the Beach by le Meridien Hotel in Tahiti
