Maupiti is a very small island (it only takes two hours to tour by bike) accessible by air from Tahiti 4 times a week, by boat from Bora Bora just about every day or by helicopter on call. There are no hotels but just inns and pensions and a few years ago despite the mayor ambition, the island population decided they did not want any new hotel which obviously would ruin this small paradise. Yes there there are still some islands that choose authenticity over mercantilism.
No ATM, boutiques, bars, clubs, restaurant, this islands obviously is not for everibody and tha’s a good thing to still find some preserved gems.
The Kuririi Village is a small “inn” or “family run” pension of four bungalows on a private motu by the pass on the coral reef, facing east with some of the most beautiful sunrises with the island of Bora Bora as a backdrop. The Kuririri Village does not have hot water, but the shower is at lagoon’s temperature, a bit tonic in the morning but so comfortable in the evening... not enough power to run an electric hair dryer or an iron but who needs them in Maupiti...cats and dogs on the motu, yes but there are more fish in the lagon...
Nothing fancy, far from it, no marble lobby, but the beach for lobby, no esspresso coffee but the most charming smiles to serve a delightful morning cofee, no valet parking because no cars, no bell boys or doormen to tip as there are no bells or doors... yes Kurirri village is one this magical places...
Camille and Anne Marie, the owners, a charming French couple have been running the place for 5 years and they love Maupiti and want to share some of it if you are ready to accept it , the pension’s library is extremely well furnished with all essential books about the region and more, Florence the cook, will do miracles with a lobster or a mahi mahi, butter and lime, Robinson, the gardener will take you to its hidden treasures on the other side of the island.
A well kept secret ... www.maupiti-kuriri.com/default_en.htm
