Eagles of Swimming River Reservoir

I’ve been monitoring an American Bald Eagles nest on Swimming River Reservoir, in Tinton Falls, New Jersey for a few months. The nest, or aerie is a massive structure that sits high atop an equally massive oak, which sits back approximately 250 yards form the small bridge that’s adjacent to the Spillway. I’ve visited the nest several time to see the progress of the single Eaglet hatched this year, and I’ve only seen one of the adults flying in the distance on one of my visits. Today I decided to check in on the Eaglet with no intention of shooting any images due to the distance of the nest from the bridge. After parking, I grabbed my camera and headed to a vantage point on the bridge, while walking I changed the autofocus setting on my camera from AF-C to AF-S … Wrong move!

I wasn’t on the bridge for more then a minute when I looked up and caught both the adults jockeying for position to land at the foot of the Spillway. It was a magnificent sight … so majestic and graceful, until they attempted to land on top of each other.

When downloading the images I noticed that while tracking one of the adults as it flew from the Spillway, there was a group of four deer directly behind his flight path. Through out they’re short stopover on the Spillway, I did manage to salvage a few images from those that I shot in AF-S mode. The quality of some is poor, but I wanted to share them anyway. Please to enjoy!
