Smock Family Burial Ground
Holmdel, Monmouth County
New Jersey

The Smock Family Burying Ground is located on the corner of Long Bridge and Willow Brook Roads about a quarter to a half-mile south of Newman Springs Rd. (Rt 520) in Holmdel near the borders of Colts Neck and Middletown. Smock Burying Ground sits in an open field. The stones are protected from moisture but have wasted away from age. Only a few remain and of these, very view are readable. Due to this isolated area, the cemetery has been vandalized several times, as recently as 1990's.

James R. Smock's lengthy obituary is in the Red Bank Register, August 26, 1943, page 7. He is buried in Fair View Cemetery in Red Bank.

According to the Monmouth County Historical Society records, at least two surveys of the Smock Family Burying Ground were completed. There you should be able to find a copy of P. D. Staats recorded inscriptions in 1910, and Monmouth County Graveyards, p. 17, McLean, 5/24/1940.

The Smock Family Burial Ground has been placed on the 'National Register of Historic Places' by the U.S. Department of the Interior.
